DIY CINNAMON ORNAMENTS

Welcome to Monday my friends!

Well, Thanksgiving is upon us and Christmas will be here before we know it. Can you just imagine all of the delicious scents of the holidays; turkey, stuffing, applesauce, cranberries and pumpkin? How about a little cinnamon thrown into the mix?

A few weeks ago my middle daughter sent me this Homemade Cinnamon Ornament idea. She knows how I love easy ornament DIY's, but also she's well aware of my love for anything cinnamon.

The ornaments take very little time to assemble. Baking in a 200F oven for 1.5- 2 hrs. and you are all set.

They make a great ornament to tie on a gift or something that smells delicious hanging on your Christmas tree and they are not extremely fragile.

Why not give them a try. It's a great project to make with the kids too!

HOMEMADE CINNAMON ORNAMENTS

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 1/4 cup ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground cloves (optional)

Follow instructions on recipe below:

I hope you enjoy this easy DIY ornament project. Working with cinnamon makes anything smell great!

Have a terrific day!

TASTES AND SCENTS OF AUTUMN

Welcome to Foodie Friday!

Autumn or Fall, as many say, is upon us....only 4 more days until it's officially here! Our local weather reports that by next week here in the northeast we will be experiencing that first real bite of Autumn.

I love to bake this time of year. I'm so glad that my hubby's office loves baked goods or I'd have to double up on the daily workouts!

Today's blog is all about tastes and scents of Fall starting with Pumpkin Cream Cheese Bread and ending with my favorite Williams Sonoma Mulling Spices.

My interest peaked when I saw the recipe for this unique bread. They had me at the cream cheese center, but then topped it with a cinnamon glaze.....this was too luscious to pass up.  It's a nice twist on an already delicious fall bread.

 Step #1
-Prepare the bread batter according to the recipe. Pour half of the batter into two prepared loaf pans.

Step #2
-Prepare cream cheese filling according to the recipe.

Step #3
-Drop three spoonfuls of cream cheese into each pan.

Step #4
-Swirl the cream cheese with a knife through the batter.

Step #5
-Bake and cool.

Recipe may be found here:

Step #6
-Drizzle with cinnamon glaze.

If you don't have time to bake there is another way that your home can smell just as wonderful. It's using mulling spices.

Williams Sonoma sells Classic Mulling Spices that may be added to cider or wine and brought to a simmer. The fragrance and taste is full of their signature blend of spices and citrus peel. It makes you want to curl up by the fireside with your favorite blanket and a good book!

Nothing says "WELCOME TO FALL" folks like a warm glass of mulled cider or wine. Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with everything that makes you feel warm and cozy!

CARAMEL-GLAZED APPLE BREAD

Welcome to Foodie Friday!

I hope your week has been going well. I can't believe it's Labor Day weekend already! Things are always so hectic. Running to the store for those last minute items to finish the school supply list, and for some of us slipping away for a couple of final vacation days before the temps take that crisp dip.

Thinking ahead to cooler days reminds me of the delicious crispy apples that are always so plentiful in the Fall. I love baking anything apple. Do you remember that terrific smell of something apple baking in the oven when you came home from school? It's so delightful!

Good ole' Betty Crocker has a Caramel-Glazed Apple Bread recipe that's really delish. Drizzling the top of the bread with a Caramel-Glaze makes it even more scrumptious!

This bread is so moist and has such a wonderful apple and cinnamon flavor. The caramel glaze adds just enough sweetness to the top of the bread. This makes a great treat for the kids when they come through the door from a long day at school!

Give the recipe a try and let us know what you think.

TLB wishes all of our friends a wonderful safe Labor Day weekend!
