I hope you all had a great weekend. Hubby and I ventured out for a bit of sightseeing. We headed to Fort Worth, TX, specifically the Stockyard area. Hubby is a history buff, so he was pretty excited to do some exploring in the museum, and other historical points of interest.
The arrival of railroads in the 1800's made the area a very profitable livestock center. Great growth came with the help of Swift and Armour establishing packing houses that sold a million cattle a year.
First stop was the famous Leddy's store....home of hand made cowboy & girl boots, and the awesome Cowboy hat!
I fell in love with these boots.....hmmm.....maybe since we live in Texas now it's time to add them to my Christmas list! Since 1922 the Leddy family has provided expert levels of detail and skill to all of their leather work. According to Leddy's, "you can tell a lot about a man from his hat," that's why you will find equal quality in their hats.
And the leather goods are carefully crafted from only the finest leather......look at that detail in the designs.
Apparently, the Bush family thinks Leddy's has outstanding leather goods also.....President, George W. and Mrs. Bush gifted Prince Charles of Wales and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall with saddles by Leddy's.
Continuing on our walk we met up with a young cowboy and his friend a Texas longhorn steer. Don't you just love those horns on "Bevo".....mascot at University of Texas at Austin?
And continuing our walk......we ran across a terrific boot shine stand.....take a look at those boots! Love the red!!
Of course I had to stop into a few gift shops.......
And then I spied this beautiful stool......I'll be back for that when we finally find a house! Isn't it great? LOVE the color and the fabric is perfect!
I love these baskets too.......I'm not sure what they are called. When I picked them up they felt almost like a sturdy wire underneath with the fabric carefully woven around it. Very durable, colorful and useful!
We couldn't help but chuckle at some of the signs in stores and on sidewalks.....
We decided to make sure we took full advantage of the beef while we were in town. I ordered Sirloin steak and hubby order the Ribs......both were quite delish. We chose the famous Riscky's Steakhouse for both the ambiance and the food....after all it was featured on the Texas Monthly magazine's...as a must add to the "Bucket List."
I hope you've enjoyed our little excursion to The Stockyards in Fort Worth, Texas. A lot of history and some terrific food! If you are ever in the area....check it out and don't forget to bring your appetite with you!
Cheers.........
Wishing you a wonderful day!
Kathleen
