CHARLESTON WEDDING DETAILS

It's all about the details today as I take you through the planning stages of my daughter's wedding in Charleston, SC--

This was the first wedding in our family and I had no idea how much work we had ahead. Fortunately, my daughter was very organized. She had already gathered many ideas she loved from various websites, which helped me to know what she was envisioning for her  "perfect" wedding.

The groom was so patient. Together they spent countless hours checking off every detail that was important to them. They very much wanted their wedding to be warm and inviting for their guests. It was quite a "team effort" and a beautifully unique evening defining what was important to them

The venue they chose, The Cedar Room, was an old Cigar factory, Circa 1881 in Charleston, SC. The walls were rustic brick, the floors restored wood, and the walls were lined with beautiful long windows. Historic wood columns and chandeliers added a touch of rustic glam to the room. It proved to be a lovely setting for their "dream wedding."

Establishing the color palette for her florals was easy for the bride. She knew from the beginning that she wanted a "warm but elegant" palette to include Burgundy Dahlia's. The florist added a bit of whimsy found in Blue Thistle and Purple Queen Ann's Lace.

Below is her bouquet. Wrapped around the floral stems of the bridal bouquet was a personalized embroidered wedding handkerchief, a gift from the bride's Dad and me. The monogram NPH with their wedding date, and a floral design was stitched in blue.

(This was her Blue.)

The bride and groom chose matching Joesph Abboud Light Gray Satin Edge Notched Lapel tuxes for the groom and his groomsmen. They all wore a boutonniere of
Chocolate Cosmos.

The bride's father, the groom's father and the bride's uncle all wore
Black Peak Lapel Tuxes with Chocolate Cosmos boutonnieres.

The brides' gown was designed by Kate McDonald of Charleston. It was empire waisted with a sweetheart neckline and cathedral train. (which was bustled for the reception)  Her cathedral length veil was hand sewn with a delicate crystal beaded edge and ended with a gorgeous intricate beaded crystal design on her train.

Sewn inside the bride's gown was a heart shaped piece of fabric taken from the my bridal gown in 1977. (This was her "OLD.")

The Bridal Sash was hand sewn with crystal gold beads, and crystal rhinestones tying in back with an Ivory satin ribbon.

The Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids wore Navy Shantung dresses by Lula Kate of Kate McDonald, and carried similar bouquets to that of the bride.

Touches of burgundy Dahlia's and Hydrangeas with greens draped the
"WELCOME" sign that greeted guests as they entered
"Cocktail Hour" in the Courtyard.

Guests were entertained by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra String Quartet.

The ceremony area was defined by a crystal beaded chandelier, arched hanging leafy greens with votive candles, floral pew markers, and large pillar candles lining the aisle. A unity candle was lit by the Mother's of the Bride and Groom during the service.

The bride and groom chose officiant, Rev. Kristen Barner from Wedding Belle Rev.
Kristen created a beautiful, personal, and warm ceremony perfect for the couple.

A "THANK YOU" message was passed out to guests at the ceremony.
It contained a personal message written by the bride and groom.

The bride and groom had commissioned their monogram from Scotti Cline Designs.
It was used on their thank you cards, pillows, napkins, menus, program, and signage. They
also chose Scotti to design their invitations to include a sleeve monogram
 that wrapped around their invitation.
The bottom of the invitation included scrolling much like that
that appears on the gates that Charleston is noted for.

Keeping the theme of buying local, the bride chose a bracelet and
earrings from Emma Katzka Bridal of Charleston.
The designer is known for mixing delicate details with modern elements, and
twisting vintage materials into contemporary creations.
These creations were the bride's favorites!

A vintage style lounge area was set up for guests to relax and converse during the festivities.

Guests were able to find their table number by locating their name on the
antique mirrored signage complete with monogram.

Family and guest tables were covered with the bride's favorite--short crushed velvet linens in Dove Grey. Gold compote centerpieces contained many of the same florals as the girls bouquets with added touches of magnolia leaves, and peach roses.

Place settings included a gold rimmed charger, a personalized menu containing each guest's name, and a Navy Satin ribbon tied in a bow. Placed underneath each place setting was a linen Navy napkin. Votive candles were added for evening dim light. Each table contained a gold framed table number assisting guests to find their seats.

Sheers were strategically hung from the beams throughout adding a
soft draping and a bit of formality.

Gold Trumpet vases and votive candles lined the head table filled with the same florals
as the guest tables with the addition of willow branches.

The bride fell in love with the texture and satin swirls in the head table linens. It added a bit of glam to set their linens apart from the rest of the tables. The menu cards were part of Scotti Cline's creations. Each guest's place setting contained a personalized menu at their place setting printed with their name, their selected meal choice and dessert choices.

The bride and groom chose "3" different Entree's for their dinner guests.
Guests were able to select from the following:

 She-Crab Soup
Charred Peal Onions, Tarragon Croutons,
and Sherry Creme

Baby Arugula
House-Cured Coppa, Goat Cheese,
Pine Nuts, and Hazelnut Vinaigrette

Long guest tables were draped with greens, magnolia leaves, hydrangeas, and dark burgundy Dahlia's in the center. Votive candles were scattered throughout.
The bride and groom chose low foliage table draping to allow guests to communicate more easily with one another.

After the ceremony, the wooden pedestal table which held the cakes, was moved
under the arched greens with hanging votive candles where
the ceremony had taken place.

The bride and groom commissioned Wedding Cakes by Jim Smeal to make
their wedding cakes. Their monogram was strategically placed on the
second layer of the 3-layer Buttercream frosted cake. Two layers were Triple                                       Sec Orange flavored Liqueur and one was Creme Caramel.

The grooms cake flavor was Carrot with Fig Filling and Cream Cheese frosting.
It was decorated with a blue "D," a tribute to Duke University,
his Alma Mater.

Additional sweets were; Mini Amaretto Cheesecakes with Port-soaked Cherries
and Chocolate drizzle.

The bride and groom used the wedding knife from our "1977" wedding to cut
their first piece of cake.

The Millennial Collection "Love"  Waterford toasting goblets
were a gift from us.

The bride and groom deferred the traditional guest sign-in book and instead opted for a:

"Wedding Wish Tree" that read:

Here stands our Wedding Wish Tree
Though it looks a little bare,
But it would look so pretty
With the thoughts you want to share.

And in the years that follow
We'll remember on this day,
All your thoughts and words so kind
and in our hearts you'll stay.

So please pick up the pen and write
A joke, a note, or a quote,
Then tie it to the branches
And watch the wishes float.

****Written by the Bride's Father*****

On the table were burgundy laser cut Maple leaves, with a gold ribbon loop. Gold pens were provided for each guest to write a message to Nathan and Hilary. Then guests were asked to hang them on the tree. Tall pillar candles, wedding photos of their parents and a Charleston Sea Grass basket for wedding cards. These woven baskets stem back some 300 years to Charleston where locally harvested bulrush was woven into these beautiful creations. (This basket belongs to the bride's Aunt.)

Our wedding gift to Hilary and Nathan was the services of Raleigh artist
Dan Nelson, who painted their portrait as they danced their first dance together
as husband and wife.

Guests danced to music provided by Bunn DJ Company's, Phil Constantin. As the evening was coming to an end, guests lined the staircase of the Cedar Room with sparklers for the perfect send-off!

In remembrance of the bride's Grandfather, and his love of vintage cars,
the bride and groom opted to ride away in style!

Mr. and Mrs. Nathan M. Partin

It was a romantic and magical evening filled with the love of family and friends.
Hilary and Nathan's personalized touches made the evening a night for us all to remember!
Thanks for joining me today!
